PACIFIC URBANISM

 Case Study

California

SANTA MONICA | LOS ANGELES, CA

Santa Monica has changed drastically since its establishment, and now there are multi-family buildings such as duplexes, triplex, and apartments that make up part of the new face of Santa Monica. Its proximity to the beach and its nightlife make it desirable for any young person. These changes allowed Santa Monica to start uniquely defining itself compared to its neighboring cities, such as Venice Beach. With the demand for housing in Los Angeles, Santa Monica took an approach of having design and unit space go hand in hand to accommodate the people using the building while keeping with the design choices of the city.

The project takes on a multi-family apartment to restore and renovate it by giving it a facelift of its exterior façade and repurposing its setbacks to become usable. Designing with minimal interference allows the building to keep its identity while modernizing and not standing out but being part of the neighborhood, bridging the past to the present.
